Tragedy Khadafi
Rap / Hip Hop
Tragedy Khadafi, formerly known as the Intelligent Hoodlum, is best known as the lyrical father of the Queensbridge, New York rap sound, inspiring Queensbridge legends like Nas, and mentoring other Queensbridge multi-platinum recording artists Mobb Deep, and Capone-N-Noreaga. Beginning his career in the 1980s, after independently releasing several singles, Tragedy first caught the attention of legendary producer Marley Marl to become hip hop's youngest MC at 14 years old as a junior member of hip hop's first collective, The Juice Crew, appearing on the Juice Crew's album "In Control, Volume 1". Subsequently as a solo artist, Tragedy released his album "Tragedy – Saga of a Hoodlum" on A&M Records. Moving on to an executive role, Tragedy then discovered, mentored and signed rap duo's Capone-N-Noreaga (C-N-N) to his imprint 25 To Life Entertainment releasing their platinum selling album "The War Report" through Penalty Recordings, where he also appeared as a guest artist, writer and producer. Switching again to his recording artist roots, Tragedy continued in the 2000s to release his solo album, "Against All Odds" on Gee Street/V2/BMG Records, and another solo album, "Still Reportin" through his 25 To Life Imprint on Caroline Distribution/EMI. Moving into film, Tragedy became an executive film producer also starring in one of hip hop's first documentaries on Queensbridge's influence, through his autobiographical documentary "Tragedy The Story of Queensbridge," distributed on Fuse TV, and at Slamdance, NXNE, and Pop Montreal. Since then, Tragedy has continued his prolific talent and skills to release in excess of 13 albums independently, and continues to discover new talent.
